944 Build date 9/85.
Ive noticed the data plate next to my fuse box says my car was built in 9/85, But it was sold as 1986? just trying to figure out what parts to order for sunroof.
Just wondering if anyone knows what dates cars that sold as 1986 were built. Or... is my car actually a 1985.5 despite all the insurance forms etc.. I have delt with? Curious now, Thanks Stephen. PS: also drunk now. |
Your car is an MY 1986, if that sticker is correct. I believe the month where the MY 'rolls over' is July or August. I.e a July 1990 car will be an MY 1990, whereas a September 1990 car is an MY 1991. MY stands for Model Year.
Therefore cars built from August 1985 to July 1986 (Given a 'rollover' day of August 1st) would be MY 1986 cars, the latter half being 1986.5. As an aside, I don't believe '.5' is an official marking for cars, I think its just something car enthusiasts use to further distinguish amongst MYs. Being as how at the time (from what I have read), 944's had a huge waiting list, your car was likely not delivered to the original owner until the first part of 1986 - to make things more confusing! Cannot really confirm anything though without looking at the chassis number (by passenger strut tower) or the VIN. It should also have the early style sunroof. Pretty sure Jrboulder is correct with the date for the sunrroof change. Hope that helps, not confuses! Good luck! |
