FRWILK chip and preignition/detonation

I installed FRWILK's chip the 3K5--Has anyone installed this and run into issues with pre-ignition/detonation problems ?

installed it a month ago and ever since the first drive I have been experiencing the "shaking a paint can sound" under the hood

so i went over to my mechanic and had him check the mixture..set 1.0 %, the car is in top running condition..just had belts and water pump done too..running premium gas --91, plugs are new

I only hear this when engine is under load, it doesn't do it when going from 1st to second, second to third, but from 3rd to 4th I hear it, and especially going from 4th (accelerating hard) into 5th--on the freeway ..wouldn't you think that if I was experiencing pre-ignition detonation that it would do it throughout the whole rev range ?

I was running his previous chip power prom 2 before and never had any issues

I'm wondering if this sound could be something mechanical----bearings ?

Last night I switched back to the old chip and the "sound" went away

I hated taking out the new chip because it really does make your engine perform great..

any input on what to look for next

Sound like classic preignion/detonation issue to me. Yes it does it when under load in higher gears. I would try to use highest grade fuel you can find. Also it helps to make sure the fuelling is right, i.e. you not running lean (fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator is OK). Also would run some engine fuel additive that will clean the combustion area from carbon deposits and injectors which can cause preignition. If you cannot eradicate preignition you should switch back to standard chip.

Crap gas? Do you need to run a cooler spark plug? Have you eliminated vacuum leaks? Inspect fuel pressure as suggested above. . .can be affected by dirty pickup screen, clogged filter, weak pump, bad FPR.

The fact it only happens in higher gears may actually point to fuel delivery issue.

Why are you running 91 octane in an 87 944 engine? Does the chip call for that?
If you actually have a pre-ignition problem, it's as the name suggests. The explosion is happening too soon. My second wife divorced me for that same problem....
Anyway, Prob went away after switching old chip back. Chip is causing the prob. Chip controls fuel amount and spark timing. Having too much fuel won't cause pre ig. Spark timing advanced too much will.
My guess is:
1. it's a bad EPROM chip flash, which can be tested with a new 3K5 chip.
2. Chip flash was good, but you zapped the chip with static electricity when you installed it.
3. Your timing belt is set advanced a 1/2 tooth or a full tooth and that together with the advanced timing of the new chip made the total advance too much.

I might have suspected carbon deposits in the combustion chamber, but the prob went away by using the old chip.
DO NOT run the engine if it's pre-igniting. You can burn/melt a piston.

I once examined a FRWILK S2 chip bin, and the ignition curve at WOT was weird. It had constant advance over a wide rev range, and seemed to have way too much at the peak torque point where you need the least advance. The NA might be different of course. If it is knocking around 4000-4500 rpm I suspect it is because the chip has too much timing for your engine condition or fuel type.

Get a EPROM reader/burner and change the timing or get another chip.

Thanks for all the great suggestions..

The chip is great...I'm not trying to say anything bad about it
Removed it for time being....hence..
Going to check fuel delivery....fuel pump and screen are brand new
Send chip back and have frwilk check it out
Have my mechanic recheck belt/timing tooth position...just did belts and water pump and hadn't had the chip in beforehand
