New Transportation(s)
-Well I bit the bullet over the weekend. Got a deal on a new daily beater that has been in the family, $500 for an '89 Fox w/69K, 4sp and the air works, not bad huh? My 88 Fox Wagen has been good to me but I have beat it real hard over the years, keeping the heavy daily miles off the 944. I called it my WindWagon because it was a great vehicle for windsurfing. -I cared about it so much that I put salt water in the radiator to get me home when a hose went at a remote beach. Things that didn't work, gas/temp gauge, radio, a/c, horn, etc.. what a joke, no one would believe I owned a nice 944. (never judge someone by the looks of thier car!)
BTW, I love my 944 so much, I opted not to upgrade to a newer sports car, bought a Cessna 175 also this weekend! Now time to start flying lessons! A new way of speeding for me! |

Is the 175 the Cardinal?
I could never figure out you high wing people. Piper makes TOTAL sense (kidding...) Anyway, congrats on the fox AND the 172(5?)

It's a 1958 175 with the geared GO-300 six cylinder 1200 TBO, 200SMOH, 2300 TT. PO is 75 and an AI, he had the plane for 12 years. I really wanted a low wing, was looking at 140s, but wanted a true four place for cheap. I almost bought a '80 161 but it had high time. I think I got a pretty good deal on it, everyone freaks on the geared engine but it's supposed to be run with high RPM, when its flown wrong then theres problems. Now for the kicker, I have no logged time and am looking for an instructor! Kind of like buying a 944 and not knowing how to drive! Figured I'd jump in head first. I do have a good mentor, he owns 2 Migs, an Iskra and an Aerostar.

heh, a Fox eh. we were looking at one of those once when our Nissan broke. you can beat the living crap out of it and it still will spite you by not breaking. i absolutely HATED my Nissan that was my daily beater for a few years. nobody would think that the guy with that POS had Porsches.
don't spend a cent on it and it will run forever. or as a friend said "drive it like you hate it and it will last forever." ![]() obin

It seems your right Obin. I even ran the thing out of water and oil at the same time, ran it till it overheated and quit on the side of the road, and it still runs like a champ!

the cardinal is the 177, early models had fixed gear and lycoming O-320, later cardinals got retractable gear and 180hp, the 175 would be fun, a little extra power on a straight tail 172, my dad's got a '58 172 at home, we spent 3.5 years restoring it, i should scan those photos
