I'm planning on going. When is it?

I have soooooo many left over parts from parting out a car last summer and I'll be parting another one before I go.

Having been there as a vendor for years, I'd can say the big complaint recently has been that lots of people attend to look at stuff (*at* stuff, not for stuff). Lots of people pick things up, but they were then putting them down. We hauled all kinds of stuff up there but we didn't sell a lot. Wondering whether it is worth it.

Not complaining, just observing: I think the influence of the internet and the ability to buy and sell online (not that its a bad thing) has killed the swap meet for the vendor. It is still a place to meet old friends, make contacts and sell a few odds-n-ends. But now most buyers can get parts whenever you want, not just once a year at a swap meet or via catalog sales.

Bottom line: If you go to sell, choose carefully what you bring, as you may be hauling a lot of it home.

I've been going to this show for 17+ years, since they had it in Ski Roundtop in Lewisberry and understand your frustration. From my standpoint, as a consumer, I think it would help if vendors had a better mix of new and used items. Items such as clothing and boutique stuff seemed to be popular but in short supply. There was even some jewelry displays last year which were popular with the ladies. I can see vendors bringing older used parts for antique vehicles, but I'm amazed at how much garbage is brought there for newer generation vehicles. Many bins filled with parts that look like they were salvaged from the Titanic and ten times worse than the part you're trying to replace. I even saw a bin full of used 944 brake pads where 90% of them were worn down almost to the rusted backing plates. I mean....seriously? Just my $0.02

Hoping there will be a spot for fixing cars again. In particular, TB replacement.

A few of us from Richmond are leaving around 430 am and will hopefully be there by 9 am. Think I will drop my rebuilt 944 in the sales lot and look for a 911SC.

i started going to this a number of years ago, and have gone out there a few times now, both trailering out, and flying, and twice as a vendor.

frankly i have been disappointed every time. i don't know what all the hoo-hah is about. it's not very big. there is never any 968 stuff. i have yet to find any used parts worth having (but then i'm pretty picky when it comes to used parts). the vendors that are there never seem to have anything that you can't just get online, and don't really offer any deals that say "buy me now". all in all, i get through the whole thing in a little over an hour. pretty much a big "ho hum".

they really should tie some driving events to this, but then it's a PCA thing, and they are stuck in the mud.

the only reason i go is to see a bunch of people that i don't get to see very often. if there were some way to meet up and skip the swap meet, i would. i blew it off last year, and was told by many that i didn't miss a thing.

and it always manages to rain at least one day

Rain is mandatory. I visited San Diego for the first time in my life recently. It rained, every. Single. Day.

I'm not sure why some people love this event and others hate it. I have been to it on two previous occasions and this will only be my third trip. My first trip was 4 years ago and I fell in love with some of the used Porsches there. I got the bug real bad and bought one. I thought there were incredible deals on things like wheels. I saw numerous sets for sale for as little as 250 dollars for an entire set that would normally cost me at least 600 or 800. I've guess there is a lot of stuff you can purchase online, but there is also a lot of really cheap stuff you can get there that you can't get anywhere else. There were guys with flat beds of pulled used parts for next to nothing for 944/951s. I picked up parts like air compressors and interior parts for $1, $2 and $5, etc. If I had ordered some of these parts from places like DCAuto I would have paid a fortune plus shipping, The same parts would have cost about $10 to $20 a part. I guess it all depends on what you're looking for and I just thought it was great to see real restored cars in good working order for a change. Most of the 944/951s around where I live are roaches. It was also cool to see good 911/930s and 928s.
