New Glarus Porsche Show? Suprise at Cars n Coffee

Any one from here going to New Glarus, WI on Saturday May 14th?
https://sites.google.com/site/newglarusporscheshow/
I ran into Brian who is arranging the show this past Sunday at Cars n Coffee in Lake Mills. He is looking for DD's as well as Show cars. We as a category are vastly under represented. He said the 356 guys are really strong. Fees go to Special Olympics.

The surprise:

Wow, never expected to see one outside a major show, collection or museum.

Rare indeed ,been drooling over 959 for years.Must have been quiet a hassle to register it in the US.Did you know that if the 959 is standing still & ready to take off and a car go by it at 100MPH, the 959 still could over take it before the end of a kilometer that how fast it is.

WOW! I had no idea. I have my 944 up in the air doing the rear suspension bushings right now but I can try and get 'er done prior to the event.

I can always just go in my civilian car to check out the show.

You guys are killing me!!!
I'm not put back together yet, but would love to go. Of course the kid has soccer at 12:00, and wifey will be working. (2 1/2 hour drive for me).

Hope to go sometime.....

Speedy did you get your bushings done?

I do not know if Brian has enough pull to have the owner of the 959 bring that to New Glarus. I'm hoping that it's been invited to the Milwaukee Masterpiece Concours d'Elegance in August since Porsche is a featured marque this year.

The Cars and Coffee in Lake Mills meets the first Sunday of the month from 8am to 11am.

I did not get the bushings done but I am putting the car back together for the summer. I ran into some stubborn bolts I could not get undone even with a long breaker bar. I have a spare torsion tube assembly from a parts car I will rebuild and then swap when the time is right.

I am planning on being at the car show this Saturday. Look for a Guards Red 944 with green Hobbyist plates. The car is not much of a looker as it is a unrestored, enthusiastically drive, 175,000 mile 944.

I reassembled everything and took the car for a test drive. For the next couple days I will work on cleaning and polishing. See you at the show.

Good to hear.

As far as Brian knew Monday evening there'll be two 928's, two 951's, one or two 944's (with you that makes 2 or 3) and possibly a 944 S2 (owner debating which to bring 930 or 944S2)

I'm switching to the 16in rims and cleaning tomorrow too.

Pics from the event

Despite a less than auspicious start on the part of Mother Nature, it was mizzling (miserable drizzle) as I left home, New Glarus remained dry though cool. There was a nice turnout although some chickened out due to the weather. I got to meet Speedy and his family. His car is in very nice shape especially for as many miles are on it.

Some other very nice cars:

Thanks to Brian and his wife for all their hard work getting this started. It was very well run.

John - There is cheese almost everywhere you go in Wisconsin. IIRC you were in Stevens Point once upon a time so you should be well versed. The "hi-chee mama red-hot pepper brats" were more intriguing, I may have to return to get some.

ddbach,

It was a pleasure meeting you and thank you for originally posting the event on Pelican. Without the posting I would have never known the show was going on, even though it was in my back yard. Congrats on the trophy as your low milage 944 was in excellent condition. It is wonderful to see our waterpumpers are still loved and cared for.

Almost every model of Porsches was represented with the exception of a 924. It was a great cross section of all cars and everybody was very welcoming and friendly. My wife came away really liking the 356 series cars, they seemed to be her favorite. I personally like the gray 930 with the engine mods and open wastegate dump.

I can't wait for next years show.

Great pictures! Nice camera work.

New Glarus is famous for the quality and types of Swiss cheese.
I made a few trips there just for the Swiss cheese for my boss.
I also took my trophy wife on our first "big" date to the Fondue Restaurant (unsure of the name).

A great town.

John

Greetings,
I'm the owner of the grey 930,
Anyone know if Brian is going to have the show again in 2012?

Schmidlapp,

Brian had been planning for May 12th with a move over to Cambridge but about 2 weeks ago I heard from him that he was cancelling for this year and instead planning to return to New Glarus next year.

"I have canceled the show for this year with three months to go because things have not been falling into place easily enough with folks in Cambridge, resulting in too many uncomfortable unknowns at this point and as such my confidence in a successful event is pretty low--much more than with New Glarus. Actually, everything went very smoothly last year, up until, well, the afternoon of the show

Anyway, I wanted you to know I pulled the plug for this year. I am tentatively planning on having it be back in New Glarus in May 2013 on that nice pavement on the main street. The only thing is, I don't think I can get a rain date, but I'll just have to be really good leading up to the event! (Ha)"

Here's his page for the show 20th Century Porsche Show

I did see him Labor Day weekend at the 2 Shores Concours on the Green in Lake Mills with both his 911 and his M3. Lots of nice pictures from that event. events classic cars collector lake mills midwest cars coffee | classic,, collector, cars, | classic cars | classic collector ca

TI am sad to hear the show is canceled for 2012 as I was looking forward to going once again. It was a great way to get out and meet people.

That is a nice area to go for a drive.
