Oil Filter housing seals (Need some advice)

Car: 1986 944 Turbo

Oil Thermostat Housing Seal Repl

I am going to be doing my Oil Filter housing seals as mine are leaking. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to help this job go smoothly. I am using the tutorial above for the job. This weekend will most likely just be tear down and hopefully I can put it all back together piece by piece this next week.

I have heard I need some oil line wrenches to help with this job. I have thought about picking up some harbor frieght ones, but some have said they might be too big. I have also hear some people recommend Hazet wrenches.

Wrench Set Tools VW Audi BMW Porsche 24mm & 27mm | eBay

Would those wrenches be good. They are supposed copies of Hazet wrenches without the price tag.

I used these to replace my oil lines and oil pressure sender, worked great: 15 Piece Metric Service Wrench Set

Good luck, Keith

I have a couple of ZDMack tools and have no problems.

The oil pressure sender is 24mm
The OPRV valve is 24mm.
The cam tensioner pulley is 27mm
The O2 sensor is 22mm
The radiator fan relay/switch is 29mm

The set of 2 wrenches should be good for the job.

You must have the OPRV alignment tool when you replace the oil cooler housing plate or you could bind the OPRV valve.

There are 2 types--early and late ---depending on the OPRV valve you have.

Read PDF:

http://www.944online.com/pdf/oilcoolertech.pdf

Alignment tool (s)
TOP = LATE
BOTTOM=EARLY

Changing OPRV "O" rings on upgraded 3 piece and late 3 piece...

This is a messy job---stuff falls in your face.

I thought for some reason I need a 32MM wrench. Any truth to that?

The oil cooler lines use 27mm and 32mm wrenches.

UPDATE:

I have drained my coolant from the radiator and oil from the engine. I decided I would look at the glorious little engine above me. What do I see, but a drip of coolant on the water pump. It appears that little hose that connects the water pump to the coolant pipe by the headers may be leaking and it isn't my oil cooler housing seals.

Will the oil cooler housing seals cause an external coolant leak? Will you always get milkshake when they go bad? I have no milkshake. My coolant is just a clean as when I put it in a few months ago.

Look at pictures and let me know what you think.

Drip on underside of water pump.

Suspect hose
