Balance only parts of the rotating assembly? X-post

Or are they balanced separately and assembled to tolerances?

I'm considering having the rods balanced on their own as they need to be refreshed. I will have to ship them to get this done and I really don't want to mess with shipping the crank at this point. If the flywheel balances the crank is it balanced to my particular pistons and rods? If so will weight balancing only the pistons/rods throw off the balance of the entire rotating assy?

With an inline four it is possible to balance the different assemblies separately - Pistons with pistons, rods with rods, crankshaft by it's self, and clutch as an assembly. It will though get a little closer to have the whole assembly balanced together, but not necessary.
