Trip odometer

Ok- I am a dumb arse. I know you're not suppose to hit the trip set switch while the car is moving but.... We were driving from Maryland to FLorida and the moment just...just kind of happened.
Anyway, my 88 w/ 110xxx now says 810xxx. I read some of the other odo posts for this fix but they all don't quite fit my problem.
The odo is still working fine other than the fact the 1st digit is wrong. Is there an easy fix for this or do I have to pull the dash down?
By the way- I put in a Weltmeister chip last week. Not impressed.

Well I don't know about your spedo problem..but that chip should do quit a lot. Did you install a wastegate shim or a 'banjo bolt' with it? Thats what give the increased power. It ups your boost. The chip just takes out the boost limiter and ups the rev limiter and mixes your fuel/air ratio n stuff.

That would all be true if it were a turbo. Alas, my 88 is a standard asperated model (I still love it though).
Anyone have any ideas about fixing the odo problem?

Ahh...no wonder. Chips don't do crap ;-). Getting more speed out of an N/A is somewhat hopeless (unless you put in a lot of $$$). But N/As can be made to have some AMAZING handling. Sorry i can't help with the Odometer

I would advise taking it apart and resetting it CORRECTLY. It is a little tedious but possible. I have "cured" a few of this problem by simply resetting them w/out replacing any parts. Not really sure why it worked...but it did =) Pelican used to have a tech write up on repairing odometers, it's probably still there.
