944 S2 Inconsistent cabin heat.

I am a new 944 owner and will be spending alot more time here now...I usually spend time with the 993 owners on RL...so I will have a great deal of ignorance on this new car.

The heater works, but seems weak at times...especially when very cold outside. When it finally warms up the air coming out of the floor and vents is inconsistent...and fluctuates between very hot and cool. Small adjustments to the temp knob yeild big changes in temps.

Heater control valve? Air in coolant? The air direction "flap"?

Thanks in advance for any help. I will have new topics to post for help as soon as I get this one worked out...jeeez...old Porsches are fun!

I have always had heat issues, in both my 944 and 924S. In both cases it was always too hot, basically the valve never closed. IMO climate control on these cars is more of a dream than a reality. The older you go the worse it gets. Im sure your 993 is nice, how much do you drive in the cold. I have found that some times its not worth fixing if the car is only used in warm weather.

I know these systems had vacuum involved in heat control you may want to check your vacuum system for leaks.

Regards
Dave

1.) Check also the heater control valve (Under hood near firewall).

2.) There is a small round grill in the center if the dash, and connected to that is a rubber tube that leads back to the cabin temp control/sensor - This sensor can be bad also.

3.) The electronic temp control unit in center of dash may be faulty (The one with the knobs and sliders that operates the heating and cooling).

Heater control valve on the S2 is under the Distributer not near the firewall.

There is also another annoying problem to often fix with our heating systems. The small clips that hold the control rods.

See here: 944 Heater Fix
