Decided to start my 924s yesterday as I do from time to time during its winter nap. No tach bounce or start so I changed the DME relay. Still no tach bounce but it started. I tried turning on the headlamps but not only did they not activate (or turn on), the engine quit and wouldn't restart. $¥©£√#!

Took two layers of tint off Targa window while it's off the car. 'Very careful to avoid the defroster wires, but sometimes bits of dark lines came off with the tint anyway, leaving a faint yellow line underneath. Are the wires embedded in the glass or sitting on the surface. How do I test for continuity. If they're shot I'm thinking I should scrape off everything. Is there a way to test this?

I bought a used hatch with tint one time, the defroster grid main bus had been cut with a razor when the tint was installed ...
I used carb cleaner to dissolve the tint glue and gently used a plastic scraper to remove most of it without further damaging it. If you are lucky the defroster grid will still work (it is on the surface). individual wires can be repaired using a permatex repair paint. if the bus has been cut, i couldn't tell you... The only way I know to test is in real life bad weather. The grid wires all run in parallel so testing resistance or continuity isn't going to work. Start a new thread and maybe there will be some other ideas... Last edited by djnolan; 01-24-2019 at 11:19 AM.. |

Ordered parts to do a valve cover replacement on my 924s. (From Pelican, actually. No affiliation.)

Well I spent the night replacing the starter and cleaning up the cable ends. Earlier in the week I replaced my fuel injectors. Still have a few other things to do before I try starting it up...

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fixed the intermittently flashing fuel low light. The connection for the copper wire in the sender had snapped. Cleaned it up an soldered it back together.

Found the problem...
![]() As luck would have it, I just happen to have a spare 90A Bosch alternator for a 1988 BMW E30 M3 [RIP] on my miscellaneous parts shelf (doesn't everybody?). The complete rotor assembly, with bearings and slip ring is identical to a 1987 Porsche 924S 90A Bosch alternator. Swapped over the rotor assembly and voltage regulator and POOF!; I have a rebuilt alternator, and it works perfectly. Oh, and while I was at it, I installed a WAI 24-94250 alternator clutch pulley I also had hanging out on my "to-do" projects shelf. Noticeable improvement in idle smoothness (with and without A/C on). Still feeling out the other benefits.

Oil and filter change, fixed leaky oil pressure sender, replaced power steering hose and finally made an appointment for an alignment.
