My on going DME relay Issue, '87 924S
Seems like this is not gonna be fun, finally got a new relay today and ran out and plugged it in. Car kick right over and ran like a champ, brought it up to temp and let it idle for a few minutes. Shut it down and then an hour later, came out to move it and DOA, Nada, done, kaput.
![]() Need some help here, seems none of the relays that went would work, even after I re-flowed the solder and new ones get me started right off, but then they only work once. I had ordered two from the Bird (only one showed up, gonna talk with them tomorrow) figuring the Birds replacement would be far superior to the cheap URO's and the same thing is happening. The ECU is new rebuild from the Doc's, timing is dead on (the one start I'm getting kicks on with a tap of the key) and the fuel pump is a new after market. What is going wrong???? Once I kill them, it seems that following the various blogs/sites and comments, re-flowing the solder is still not working, the relay is DOA. As I recall, isn't there a transistor or a diode in the DME, could that's what going and if so, why-can it be replaced. These suckers ain't cheap and my Kid back in a couple of weeks and ain't now way lead foots driving one of my cars (he has a history) ![]() The only place I can go is there's a resistance or short in a coupling. I did note that the tach isn't giving the greatest bounce when I'm cranking but still has a nice pop when the electricity hit on the first tap. Both sensors are new, they checked out on the meter (resistance). Need some help, can't shoot $25 everytime I start it. |

Did you resolve this issue?
As I am having similar issues. I have a 924S (86) I have just rebuilt it and found that it wouldn't start I have used the links below and I have found out it is the DME relay. I have confirmed this by doing the quick check (without a multi meter). I have just ordered an new one, but reading your thread I would like to check what this ended up being, to ensure I don't have the same issue. I have found a great site which I find is very helpful. Link below. Clark's Garage Home Page Once there use the Garage shop manual link on the left and from there you can normlly find what you need. Thanks Zee1000 |
