944.537.081.02 is this drivers side or passenger side door handle?

found a non script exterior handle for 944 and dont remember if its a drivers side or passenger. it looks like an 'L' is in front of part number but not positive as eye are old and dont work. anyone know the difference?

A good way to tell is with the linkage. The linkage should be facing down with the handle in a horizontal position. With the linkage and handle in this position the key cylinder will be on the left for passengers, and on the right for drivers. If the linkage is in the correct position it will hang better and be slightly longer than upside-down.

It seems that the number you have there is a casting number as the correct part numbers are as follows.

944 538 905 00 is left side 85.5 and up
944 538 906 00 is right side 85.5 and up.
477 837 037 H is left side for early
477 837 038 H is Right side for early

If the part number is ends in an odd number. Excluding the last two numbers the part is for the left side. And yep. Even for right.

Seafeye does that rule of thumb also go for casting numbers ??

Should work for all. Except if the part is identical to both sides. I believe this is a German DIN standard
