ongoing for about 2 months

At idle I get a little popping through the exhaust but revs just fine. when driving I have to feather the clutch the gas to move. at speed and in any gear, if i put my foot on the gas and press more than1/4 inch it boggs down the power but wont stall out. if i just accelerate SUPER SLOWLY everything is fine.(not good for merging onto the interstate)

I checked the AFM and TPS , in and out of the car and got good readings. One contact on the potentiometer was raised a little higher, but i bent it back down and aligned to a fresh surface.

Plugs and wires look ok.

Voltage through injector wiring is spot on. Unplugged each connection to the injectors at idle and each, as should, dropped off and then picked back up again once reconnected.

Replaced fuel filter last month and patched all leaks that were in the gas tank.

Engine reacts just the same if not slightly better with O2 sensor unplugged in as plugged.

Temp sensor tested good as well.

Tomorrow i'm pulling the fuel rail and reverse flushing the injectors to clean them out and testing fuel pressure.

I do have a small oil leak (maybe 5 drops a day sitting cold and at idle 5 per minute, due to a gasket leak)

Whats next to check before I have to give up and take it to the shop? O2 sensor, DME remapping..........

the 9v transistor battery he speaks of, is that some special battery or will any regular 9v battery work?

TPS tests fine. At idle its ay 900rpm and rough. Disconnected TPS, its at 1200rpm and smooth. Still lack of power and smoke testing in the morning eventhough I don't hear any leaks.

Regular old 9 volt battery available at any market, drug store, radioshack, etc...you know, the one with the poles on the top.

Could it possibly be that your Cat is clogged ? Disconnect at the first bolted joint ahead of the Cat and test it that way.

Have you pulled the afm external connector to see that it's good contacts? My car ran like that when I forgot to plug it back in (duh!). Another thing is to check the soldered conections in the DME. If you can find a loaner, that will eliminate that to start with. Have you done a thorough vacuum system check? Vacuum leaks alone can cause a lot of weird symptoms. there's several ways to do it. Mine is 7 to 10 psi air into the intake j boot (2" PVC cap with air hose fitting threaded into it, air applied, spray soapy water solution on everything and watch for bubbles. I even found one on the throttle body (bad shaft seals).

for what it's worth, you may be firing on three or not timed. i would try new plugs( keep in mind a plug can spark and still be bad) ,and recheck your timing.

check the coolant temp sensors...i had the same symptoms, car would basically shut off (but still be running, just no power) if i went to mid or full throttle suddenly. changed the sensor out - problem fixed

i have literally 10 of each of the 2 sensors if you need some. all used, but usable.
