Question MSDS headers

Ok what are the benifits and side effects of throwing on msds headers on my 944. Do you really notice HP increases? So far I have a straight through system(gutted Cat) and a modified intake(cone) will my 944 perform noticbly better with the msds headers and is that 13% increase claim true. Thanks all the best-chris

Don't know about them, but I doubt that 13% increase without any other mods is true. The 944 seeems to have more of a "tuned exhaust manifold" than the old American cars.

I have a set on my 87 944N/A. I felt a little increse, but I think more of that came with the Borla exhust weight savings. The headers are a lighter then the stock cast headers. They fit well. You will need to have the cat or test pipe welded. I sit have the cat installed.

i've seen it written somewhere that ALL porsches before the 996 and 986 benefit from a better exhaust. so yes headers WILL help.

now for the gritty details. headers will produce a noticeable increase only when the following is all met:

1) they are flow-matched to the exhaust ports on the engine. this will decrease turbulence in the exhaust and help the engine greatly.

2) the rest of the exhaust is in excellent condition and matched.

often people will notice an increase but this is just due to weight savings, the factory exhaust is HEAVY. headers also will show an improvement if the factory manifold was clogged up to begin with.

before you put them on, i caution yoü: i got a set of headers for my 924 from MSDS and it was the most awful experience ever. i've heard that their 944 ones were better, but after dealing with the fiasco with the 924 headers, i'd rather not give them another dime.

good luck!
