I have had to rebuild the top end on my 87 944S. It took me 7 months and I did small other repairs, so now that I got it back together some small things came up.

Q1: I put a new gear in the back of the instrument cluster for the mileage meter. Now my speedo reads about 15 slower then what I'm going. (proof being in 4th at 2000rpm and it only reading 20 mph). Has anyone ever came across this or know of a fix.

Q2: My headlights only go up 3 quarters of the way up when I turn them on, but when I shut them off they raise the other quarter way up and then all the way down. I have tried adjusting them by the knob on the motor. I did have to mess with them to pull out my window fluid reservoir to repair a crack.

1. Is it 15 mph no matter how fast you are going?

2. Turn the headlights on. Open the hood. Loosen the 13mm nut on the motor drive so that the linkage is free from the motor drive. Lift the headlights up to desired level. tighten nut.

As for the speedo problem check the sensor it is mounted in the transaxle. Check the wires coming to and from it as well for frayed or severed parts. Get under your dash and clean the grounds, grounds are always a good place to start on these cars.

The gear should not effect the speed on the speedo to the best of my knowledge from repairing my 911 speedo which is a VDO as well and very similar they systems are independent. Check to make sure you did not disrupt any other components in the speedo while replacing the gear. If you ripped a resistor lose you could create issues. I have also found that the wires used in the speedo's are fragile, make sure none of them have melted casings causing them to short out.

Regaeding the speedometer, could you have knocked the needle on the shaft?

Hard to say since my brother did that while was getting the head back on.

I have another question I believe one of my injectors is a cuase of some noisy ticking. Do injectors tick and if so why do they.

Yes injectors do click. Basically here is why, an injector is an electronically controlled valve. When a voltage is put across the terminals they open and allow gas to flow through. Because of the way the internals are designed when the valve opens its makes a click noise. Now this should only be so loud. If one is clicking far more than the others you may have an issue.
