HELP!!! oil on spark plug

I pulled out my spark plugs and found oil all over the spark plug closest to the firewall. The spark plug was black and oil was baked on it.

What kinda a damage and cost am I looking at?

more 411 plz

Does it knock? Is it a daily driver, has it sat for a while? Ingition problems?
Do a compression test.
Buy a Hanes manual so you'll have something to cuss and kick around your garage.
Did you overfill the oil? Any oil in your water? any water in your exhaust? Does my bunghole have to talk so much?

1987 944 na

it does not knock, yes it is a daily driver

I have a new cap and rotor and I am waiting my ignition wires from jacobs

I did not over fill the oil but, no water in the oil.

Could it be 1 bad piston or piston rings???

Which end of the spark plug is the oil on? If it was on the end that fires [inside the combustion chamber] then it would've burned off and that's weird. If it's on the end where the plug wire connects then your cam gasket is leaking, no big deal really.

the end of the plug where it sparks is all black and i belive it is oil that has hardened on it. it almosted bridged the gap.

Are you having to add oil to the engine?

Try switching two plugs around and see if the problem follows the plug. If it does, your fix would cost about $2.

Nowhere do I read that you tested for spark at that plug. Remove it from the head and ground the body of the plug. Turn over the engine and prove that it is sparking. This will tell if it is an electrical problem.
That being said, the #4 cylinder is furthest from the cooling of the radiator and can be the first to have problems because it runs hotter.

Good luck,

Cjoven, yes thicker oil will help,if it is burning oil try running 20w-50 or 10w-40 depends on your climate,if it gets really cold there run 10-40 if not then go with 20-50.
Good luck
