944 Engine in a 924??
Hello,
How difficult is an engine swap between a 944 and a 924? Is it worth it? Power wise? Any thoughts on the 924 as a AutoX car? I was looking for something cheap as an entry level AutoX so I could learn to drive reasonable well before I finish my 914-6 project... Let Me Know your Thoughts... Ron

You would just about need a donor car.
motor torque torque tube? (924 may not have right splines for clutch) trans if need torque tube? DME computer & wiring radiator front cross member steering rack A lot kind of depends on 924 year & model. A mechanic at Protech in Greenville, SC told me that my wife's 924t could get real expensive. He said sooner or later I might want to get a 944 motor. I,ve got same torque tube & similar trans. But I would still need to do the rest. I'm buying parts to rebuid old Audi 924 motor, no swap for me. Check with Obin Robinson about his 924. drew1 |

It would really be to costly to convert over a 924 with 944 engine. As noted in the first response there are to many parts that would need to be swapped.
As far as auto-x in a 924. The 924 is a very good auto-x car. Put the optional sway bars on and the 4 wheel disc brakes and you have a great little car. I would not bother putting a monster engine in it. Leave that to your 914. Purchase a nice 1980-1982 924 and just have some fun with it. Or get a 924S if you want the 2.5L 944 motor. Eric
