Fixing the electric windows
Hi,
Has anybody out there got experience with this? Both my windows are currently not functioning. I once took off the door panel on one side and was able to disconnect the plug to the motor. When i pressed the up/down window button it showed 12v and -12v. So it seems the motor IS getting power, but it isn't doing a thing. I'm not sure about the other side, but it seems they both went at about the same time. I did notice that, especially on the passenger side, there are gaps at the in and outside between the window and stripping. Water can easily run through i and it might have caused an oxidated motor. Is there a way to get the motor out and to test it under no load and to maintain the stuff?? Thanks! |

Ok guys help me on this one. I know the early cars were tied together... that is the switches. If one of them failed the other very likely would also not work.
So if the newer models were also like this I would say that there is an issue with one or both of the switches. Most likely the passenger side switch in the drivers door. Take the switches out and check the resistance. If it is high then take the switch appart and clean the contacts. Make sure you do not bend them (contacts) put the switches back together and back in. Oh one quick test is to swap the switches and see if any of the windows moves. In other words swap the drivers and passenger switches in the drivers door. You can also make a jumper to the window motors to see if you can run them dirrectly. That will tell you if the motors are bad. Since they both seem to have stoped at the same time I think it is the switches. Eric

eric is right about early model switches & I don't think this changed. If you're getting volts that means fuse is good. Eric is on right track.
drew1 edit: got to thinking, I remember a relay on drivers side, under dash, on steering wheel hump. 82 924t Last edited by drew1; 04-28-2002 at 05:18 AM.. |
