Tie rod assembly vs tie rod end?

Hi!

Today, I went for an alignement and the mechanic told me that the passenger's inner tie rod was worn and needed to be changed before any alignement. I own a 944 Turbo. I live in Canada and I can't find any provider that'll sell only the inner tie rod instead of the whole assembly so it would cost me as high as 175$ canadian (about 105$ US). How can I establish which specific part need to be changed (the whole assembly or only the tie rod end)? It would cost me much less money.

Thanks alot!
Yan

Yan,

If you need just the Tie Rod there are many sites that sell them http://www.thepartsbin.com/ and http://**********.com they also sell the tie rod ends

Check the Tie Rod ends to see if the rubber is cracked or torn, if so then they should be replaced. I am not sure about checking the Tie Rod itself, the only reason I replaced my was because one was bent. You can pull back the boot on the Steering Rack and check to see if there is a visual damage??

Hope this helps......

Rob
