I´m trying to remove my brake pads but those small metal sticks that hold them in place have somehow jammed. I think that they are rusted.
Is there some easy way to remove rusted parts? I already spent two hours hitting those sticks with rubber and metal hammers but they wont move at all. Would heating or something like that help? Or is there something I could be doing wrong why they won´t come off? |

Usually, taking the wire retainer off, and then driving them out with a punch & hammer works for me. As far as something to break the rust, penetrating oil works, but brakes & oil don't go together.

I'm with Drew on this. Make sure you've removed the wire retainer first. Then you should be able to drive the pins out (from the inside to the outside) with a long punch. I guess my main addition would be that if they are indeed this rusty you absolutely must get them out and I might even suggest new pins so that things are clean so that you can put some caliper grease on them and keep things nice and slippery. It is not recommended to wire brush the pins---this puts grooves in them and again creates a situation in which they may allow movement. Let us know how it goes.

I manged to get them out! I had to drill one but seven came
out using punch and penetrating oil. And what really helped was hitting pins from both sides so that they started to move a bit and came loose. |
