Smile Turbo transmission questions (which is better)

What is the major difference in the turbo transmission with and without the oil cooler. If both have similar mileage on them, which would buy? Is one more durable or have greater longevity than the other or is it irrelevant. It's for a 300 hp 944. Please let me know.

James

I would say that logic would dictate that the one with the cooler would be better, though I am no expert.

88 turbo 80,000 miles no cooler.

86 turbo 95,000 miles w/ oil cooler

Which would you buy if neither has been abused..

check out this info "Transmission
In order to accomodate the additional power of the M 44/52 engine, the transmission was modified. This transmission is identified with the additional stamping of "AOR" after the stamped manufacturing date on the case. This "AOR" stamp is the only way to identify the Turbo S transmission externally. Changes include hardening of 1st and 2nd gears, and the transmission oil is externally cooled. Gearing remained the same as the conventional 944 Turbo." http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Pit/4786/Data.html

I would say that provided the turbo s gearbox is in good running order, synchros, bearings, gears etc...that it would be a no brainer.

The tranny with the oil cooler is not a Turbo S. It's a standard turbo unit wtih an oil cooler.
