wing removal

Hi everyone, some clown has dented my front wing while parked and vanished, I have searched Clarks but can't find wing removal. Is it fixed with all bolts or is it welded on in places? Anything to watch out for or pretty straight forward? Thanks.

Fender?

It is all bolts, a bunch along the top that you can see with the hood popped. One at the front corner attaching it to the nose panel. Three inside the fender liner holding it to the door frame and i think 2 or 3 along the bottom rocker. All 10mm.

The fender will be sorta 'glued' to the body with all the undercoat, so one your sure you get all the hardware off, dont be afraid to sorta 'peel' it off. Also the 3 bolts on the door frame may be covered with undercoat also, just use a flat tip screwdriver and scrape off the stuff.

Oh great! and thanks for the illustration. There's a slim chance I might be able to reach the dent with the liner removed, although even then probably not enough room to tap the dent out.

UK to US translation:

UK Wing = US Fender
UK Spoiler = US Wing

...

Hood = Bonnet
Trunk = Boot
Ground = Earth

...etc, etc

Two Countries separated by a common language. GL

Not being obnoxious here, but, actually, this isn't true. Disregarding anything to do with fenders, or to clarify, body panels that cover wheels; a wing is an airfoil used for lift or downforce. (The wing on a bird and a wing on the Wright Flyer, although not an airfoil, uses the same aerodynamic principle). A "spoiler" is not a wing. It spoils, or disrupts the air. It is also used to create downforce (or lift in rare cases - like flaps), but also creates large amounts of drag.

As for the original question, Techno Duck is correct. Between the fender and the body though (under the lip in the engine bay) is a rubber coating that is specifically for the fender (or wing), to 'glue' it, like Techno says, although it likely supplies a large amount of vibration dampening as well. You'll need to reapply it upon replacement. (A similar 3M product can be found at a car parts store).

To the USA folk, have a good Memorial Day!

Take care!

Yes technically it's not true, but if you ask for a rear spoiler in the UK you will get what we in the US call a rear wing, it's just a language thing

I feel your pain. I just went through the process in January... I wouldn't have been nearly as angry if he/she owned up to it, and left some insurance info or something, but it was basically a hit and run.

Here is where some douchebag backed into my car in front of my house (on new year's day/night):

Here it is after I ripped the old fender (wing) off...

Here's some of my crappy paint job...

And the photo I took after I finished the slave cylinder job showing the new fender (wing). Thanks cpfoster (Chris) for the excellent fender!

Separating the underbody spray and/or seam sealer, and uncovering those 3 bolts (door frame) was the only real painful part. It took a few days doing a little bit here and there after work, but overall was relatively easy.
