Tires question.......
I now currnetly have BF Goodrich Comp T/A's on the rear of my car and BF Goodrich Touring T/A's on the front. I'm due for some back tires.
How good are these Comp T/A's and if I don't go with them again, what is a comparable tire to that one?? Also - what is the difference between the Comp T/A and the Touring T/A?? Thanks for the help in advance. 944 S Boyeee |

Well, tirerack gives a little info, but not much regarding these two tires.
The Comp T/A's are defiantely V-rated, while the Touring T/A's come in V and H speed ratings. (I think V is good for speeds up to 140mph, while H is rated at up to 120 mph: something like that!) The Touring T/A has better wet traction, and also (probably) a higher tread wear number (harder rubber = lasts longer). The Comp T/A's will wear out quicker, and you've probably seen already. So, it's your call: if you get the Touring T/A's, here are the benefits: 1. All your tires will be the same brand / model. (Always strive for this: it's the best setup). 2. You won't go through the rear tires as quickly. 3. You'll have a little better wet weather stability. IF you get the Comp T/A's, you'll get: 1. Better performance in dry 2. Quicker wear. Just my $0.42. -Zoltan.

Neither of the two of those tires are all that good. Just listen to the name, Touring T/A...sounds like something for a touring car. A tire that will give decent traction and will last. Comp T/A...kinda like competition, more of a performance tire, better traction but won't last as long.
If you look at the treads on the two tires they are pretty similar. Every hear of a Radial T/A, thats a step in the opposite direction. All the tread patterns are very similar. The next step up would be the G-Force. That is the direction I would head. Speed ratings are kinda misleading. Most people think it is more about top speed, but its not. The higher the speed rating the tougher the sidewall. Which means you will be able to corner a lot faster and stop faster as well. I wouldn't worry about comparing the top speed that they say. Just get the highest you can afford. Anyways, if I were to choose one of the two, it would be the comps, V-rated. |

In my personal opinion !
I believe that the progress in the last 10 years in tire techonology was enormous. Practically every tire maker make this tire size then we have alot of options to choose. Practically I´m agree with stray 15 but I want to add that a harder sidewall will give you a harder feeling and a lot of noise more. Is this car your daily driver ? If yes, I will go for a touring driver. I recently bought a Michelin tires 205 60 15 xone for my 944 (yes, new tire for a car that don´t start jaja), because I want to use this car like a city driver and I feel that is good compromise of tire. When I bought this tires I saw the goodrich tire because here sells in the same place. But I feel that looks like old design. This xone michelin tire is cheap and have the well know michelin quality ( many people will say overpriced) and warranty. Is difficult to recomend a tire because exist a lot of good tires and every person have their own experience with his tires but in diferent weather is not the same ! If I need to buy tires in this moment for my 944 with stock wheels I will go for a potenza 55 series, not 50 not 60, 55 !. Is your decision !, good luck ! |
