Anyone around Houston?

I'm buying a 1986 n/a model in the next few weeks, and the timing belt was last changed March 2008. I would like to change it myself (to acquaint myself with the car a bit, and save $$$). I don't know when the rollers and balance belt were changed, so I would like to do that as well.

Of course, I'll probably make a hash of things, so I was wondering if anyone in the Houston area would be willing to lend me a tensioning tool and perhaps hold my hand through the prodecure. I would be willing to shell out a little money.

Also, how much can I expect to spend on decent replacement parts if I were to buy them independently? I am hoping to keep this entire endeavor under $400 preferably.

I'm in Rosenberg, but I've never done the timing belt on one of these cars before.

My 924S needs a timing belt this summer, so I'm taking it to C&B European in Katy, probably next month. I've worked with them before and totally trust them with my cars. Craig, the owner is a great guy. I'm expecting to spend in the $600 range for the timing belt and other belts. The water pump doesn't need to be changed this time around.

Porsche Crest

I just went to the Porsche dealership near I-10 and Kirkwood during my lunch break, and got a quote of around $900 for the timing belt. I'm assuming it would be about the same for the 924S, it was $850 just for the labor

A dealership is generally the most expensive place to have things done. Give C&B European a call and talk to them: 281-392-6565

A word of warning though, they are not lacking for customers, so it pays to be polite to them. Don't expect good results if you act like a jerk. Just my $.02.

Yeah, I sent them an email and will call tomorrow if I don't hear back. Thanks for the recommendation.
