Moaning Sound at Right Rear

Hi Guys,
For the past couple months I have an on and off moaning sound coming from right rear, lasting a couple seconds, mainly in the morning. Today I had a start that took a couple extra seconds and as I drove off the engine was chocking at acceleration and quit once. Then run fine. I am suspecting Fuel Pump without beeing sure. What do you Experts think? Your advise will be as always greatly appreciated.

Given your description you're probably on the right track. The fuel pump is easy to swap out, too, and good used ones are plentiful.

Really, sounds like your spot on with it being the fuel pump.

That is the fuel pump, but even with a new fuel pump, my early model 944 still makes that noise, and my other early model 944 made it to.

When was the fuel filter last changed?

I own the car for 3 years never changed it even though I bought a new one. I have no record from P.O. so who knows? Your question is very wise, it may be my problem.

Yes, by all means change the fuel filter. When you first turn the key to the start position do you hear that moan for just a second or two, if so, that's normal, fuel pump pressurizing...if the maoning continues and can be heard while driving, your pump may be going south.
