Top stopped working

My top on my 1990 944 S2 has been working fine and today when I tried to put it up to park it for the day at work it would not go up.
Any ideas?

convert it to manual, thats what I did. Probably the motor I would guess, but there's so many things to go wrong in there that its not worth it to keep it electric. When I got a new top put on I had a broken cable, the guy who replaced it did them at the dealer when the cars were new. He said that there were only 3 of that cable left in the world, two in the US and one in Germany, so he just made it himself. The motor puts alot of extra strain on the top so I would make it manual, thats my 2 cents

agreed. after decades of driving soft tops, when i got the first 968 i was really excited to finally have a power top. then, when i got it, i found that i still had to get out of the car every time i put the top down, due to the need to install the boot cover (if you don't, the headliner gets smelly and ruined). the whole process took a crazy amount of time.

i went manual shortly thereafter. much faster, and no worry about a cable popping, or a bow breaking.

The tool kit that comes with the car includes all the tools needed to make the top manual. Those Porsche engineers think of everything!

Porsche Crest Were here for you, Brother!

Most of our cars are are pushing 20+ years.. Parts are getting more difficult to get. Post pics please, i have only seen very few cabriolet 944S2.

I need a replacement alarm arm/disarm switch with a key for my "S" and ready to upgrade to a remote wireless setup. NLA ,just cant get new parts anymore. i would settle for a good used setup that works...

Later...

yes - it's in the owner's manual. it involves popping an access plug on each side of the interior, and using the tools in your tool kit that came with the car. a ratchet, extension and socket the right size will do the trick too.

Manual is the way to go. also allows you to monitor the rear window more.

Ok, so I change it over to manual for the time being. Like others have said not a big deal to open and close manually.
Thanks everyone!
