Thumbs up Just installed a MSD. Impressions and pics.

I desided to go ahead and buy a MSD for my 84' 944. This is part of a "mod of the month" thing that I'm doing. Finding a nice dry spot for it was the key for me, as it's been just pouring down rain here in Saint Louis. The hook up was a breeze, but finding a good spot for the unit was a little more difficult.

I first started by installing a new coil. I went with the Blaster2 coil made by MSD aswell. The bracket that held the original coil was a little too big, so I used a rubber strip to fill the extra space.

At first I was thinking about putting the MSD next to the battery, but it gets a little too wet right there for my taste, so I looked for room in the engine bay. After much concideraton, I desided to gut my cruise control and use that space. The motor on the cruise unit was dead anyway so no big loss. I then manufactured a steel plate for the MSD to attach to, and bolted the plate to the car using two nearby holes that used to saport the cruise control. The wiring was quite easy to run. I went ahead and ran them all through a rubber tube to clean them up a bit and keep it all orgized.

After using the car both yesterday and today, I can say that it's made a big impact on he cars performance. 1st gear is now "usable" as it now seems to have plenty of power to get you off the line. 2ed gear benifits aswell in the same manner. The car's idle is at a perfect 900-950 rpm, and the power through all the gears is nice and smooth.

I have to say it was all worth the 150$ that paid for it.

Those are Jacobs 8.5mm wires. They're nice wires for a nice price (about 50$).

MSD = Multiple Spark Discharge. What it does is, instead of providing a single timed spark like most standard ignitions do, it sparks multiple times to more thoroughly burn the fuel. Being more efficient and burning more fuel = more power, like tony found out when he installed it.

The MSD actually helps fuel economy as more of the fuel is being burnt off, resulting in more power. You don't have to give the car quite as much gas as you normally would to get it going. The extra power is addictive though, so I would guess that my fuel economy will be about the same as before the install.

I recently bought a msd6al on ebay, a lot of this there !, good price !
I can´t tell you the diference or if this help or not.
Because I don´t have in my hands yet.
Some people says that they can´t feel any diferences and somebody tell that yes.

Exist a lot of models,But if somebody wants to buy one of this, I believe that the msd 6a model is sufficient or if you a turbo or nitrous probably you will need the msd6btm (retard timing)
Check that wiring harnesses came complete.
The msd 6 series is the most commercial but exist the5 series thats is cheaper and the expensive ones (digital,7,8series).
Before I bought this timing box, I ask for a free catalog to msd.
Hope this help for people that wants buy this.

I purchased my MSD from Jegs.com along with the Blaster2 coil. The install is pretty easy, but the instructions make it seem much harder than it really is. In the manual there are several variatons of the install depending on your setup, but the first one they show should work on 99% of all of our cars. Oh! And all items needed for the hookup are included in the kit.
