In 911 & Porsche World a while back there was an article on a late 2.5 model 944 which was the recent beneficiary of the 6 speed gearbox and, 3 litre engine of a parted out low mileage (12,000 mile I think) 968.

Because of the lighter weight of the earlier 2.5 944 and because the 968 engine had been chipped and given a free flow exhaust, increasing the power by about 20bhp, the car was a blast to drive .....

The transplant wasn't cheap and was carried out by a reputable independent Porsche garage very recently. At £7500..... I was very tempted !!!!

Eduardo,

Sounds like an interesting swap. It would probably be easier with after market engine management (Motec or Electromotive).

For me will be more complicated, (auto trans).

I like the conversions.
BUt I will not do this.
maybe in a future I will want to make a 2.7 stroker.

But sounds great !
hope somebody of this forum will do this.

(I´m planning conversion and I can´t install the blets of mine !, jaja )
regards

The seller claimed that the engine was from a 89 S2 cab. Does this sound right? I think 944 S2 cab's were only made in 1990 and 1991. Also, make sure to get the VIN number of the donor car for your protection.

gzhiyingzhao,
Please get your numbers straight, memorize them and even tatoo then to your body, and quit making people like me reply to you. There were 16 1989 944s2 cabs imported to the US.
Also, I'll just add that if anyone is considering an engine swap in a 944 you might as well go with a TurboS motor. Or even a TurboS motor and have it bored to a 3.0L 968turboS specs. The only other reason why I can see that anyone would put a different engine in is if they got a great deal on a donor engine.

Thanks JetMax. I will try to remember this and tatoo the words on my forehead. Should I forget it in the future, I will look at a mirror.

Just this morning when I picked up my car a guy had an 83 with a 3.0 when he popped the hood I could see it was a tight squeeze. He had to move around some minor components to make room. The guy who did it is an independant 944 specialist and he said "it was a learning experience". However, now that it's done it must be a blast to drive!

Oh I remember now that it was the master cylinder that he had to get from a newer model so it would fit....

Porsche Crest The whole enchilada

Actually Eduardo there are two 944S2's here in Los Angeles with "body damage" that I could get for less than $5K. So for a few thousand bucks more you get the whole car!
I am tempted to look into trying to get more horsepower out of my 1984 944 BUT when I think about all the other improvements Porsche did to the S2 (brakes, trans, etc) I think it is worth the extra money.

Would you believe I'm trying to set up a appointment to look at a 1989 944S2 in excellent condition, black/black, with some interesting modifications selling for $10K.

I know that is a high price and I may be nuts but the car sounds like it might be exactly what I want. That is to say the owner has droped at least $5K into mods that I would like to do anyway.
