On the look out for a 1989 944 with 2.7L

Guys if anyone knows of or sees a 1989 944 with 2.7L in good condition with good maint history let me know. I am selling my 1983 to a friend at the end of may... so I have that much time to find the 1989.

Looking for one with reasonable miles on it in good condidition needing nothing. Really do not want red any other color would be ok.

Oh and I am in USA Massachusetts... so the closer to me the better.

Didn't all the '89 have the 2.7? Anyway the 2.7liter are 162 HP stock, only 4 HP more than a 1988. So why do you want an 89 so badly? Inquiring minds want to know.

Well yeah I was just clarifying between the S2 and the standard 944. The S2 looks like it will cost to much for my wallet.

The reaason I need an 89 is the rear 3 point harness belts. I need these for my children and I believe that 1989 was the first year.

Thanks

Eric

ahhhhhhhhhh, the seatbelts thing. I looked into that too when I bought my 88 about 3 years ago. Some of the 88 cars supposedly had a split rear seat and the 3 point belt in the rear. But mine had neither so I'm not sure what the truth is. I called around after I bought the car and I think you can have rear 3 point belts installed (hardpoints are actually in my 88 I think) but it was like $150 in parts a side or more and installation might be a ***** so I passed. I think in 89 they had the 2.7 944 n/a (162HP)and a 3.0 944 S2 (208 HP). Good luck.

Yes I think you are correct. I have seen one 1988 944 with the seat belt mount plates but only one in the many that I have seen. But as far as I have been able to determine the 1989 they were standard. So that is why.

Also the 2.7 has a bit more hp but better torque I have read. Of course it is heavy with air bags, ABS,...rear seat belts :-) and loads of options normally since Porsche was trying increase value of the car with options.

Anyway I am not looking for a race car. Just a good dimond in the ruff that would be a good problem free (as much as posible) Porsche for daily driver.

So if anyone finds one that the owner is willing to actually sell... not mark up so high that it is unreasonable... let me know.

Thanks

Eric

the 2.7's don't have airbags. You are correct about the belts, ABS, and lots of equipment.

there is a pair for sale in the rennlist classifieds. PA and FL

cheers

I don't think airbags could have been standard in 1988, since my 88 did not come with them.

from my own experiences, ABS was not standard in '88 nor were airbags in '89. ABS became standard on the Turbo S in '88, and the entire line of 944's in '89. Airbags were standard on turbos starting in '87. I've never seen airbags in a NA, only on a '88 944S, for which they were optional.

Your kidding..... no air bags in an 89 944. I swear I read an article in Automobile mag... the one that had the 1989 944 turbo, 89 S2 and 89 944 with 2.7. Anyway it talked about "content for the money". I recall it saying standard ABS and Air-bags.... hmmmm seems I need a bit more focus factor... memory going faster and faster now.

I will have to go back and check that article now. Anyway if anyone finds a good one let me know... air bags or not. Actually would rather not have them since it limits who can sit in the front passenger seat.

Thanks all

Eric

I have an 88 924S. It has 3 point seat belts in the rear, and a limited slip. But no airbags.
