Crazy electrical things going on
I just got got a 944 today and I'm having some crazy issues with the dash.
Well first off the right turn signals don't work but make the right headlight flash, make the temp gauge fluctuate... hazards don't work what so ever but the light on the dash comes on... but the left turn signals work fine... also when the headlights come on the temp gauge jumps up as well and the E-brake sensor seems to be stuck on and also flashes with all the other things Could this be a ground issue ? or is it something more i honestly have no idea what the guy did to the car he was being very vague about it but i took the car on looking for something new to learn Driving the car home it felt great shifted smooth engine was smooth just had a light tick sounded like a lifter engine was rebuilt only about K miles ago but there is a pretty descent oil leak coming from the front of the block that i need to get sorted out as well but all n all I'm kind of excited for this project i was just looking for some input into what could be causing this electrical problem |

Congratulations on the purchase of the project. It would help to know the year and mileage of the car. Did you do a CarFax? I would be concerned about the lack of information from the owner. Lifters and injectors do have a slight "tick". It may be the exhaust manifold flange gasket bolts need to be tightened a little since the engine rebuild. Clarks has a lot of information to read during your learning process. Clark's Garage Home Page GL & welcome, John

What you're describing makes me suspect you bought an early (82 - 85.5) car. Under the dash on the driver's side are a couple of fuse/relay blocks. On the back of the larger block are colored plugs. This where where the wiring in the car 'happens', basically. I'll bet when you pull the blue one you find all sorts of nonsense. I'd suggest finding all your grounds and giving them a good stern cleaning. Do a search, as this has been covered a lot.

It is a 83
It deffinetly sounds like a a small lifter tick how do these cars respond to seafoam? i had a z31 that did that when I.got it ran some seafoam thru it and it quieted it up and no.car fax it doesn't seem to have any body damage and I do know the motor was replaced less than a year ago I wasn't expecting much from this car in the first place so its all good And I did a few searches around and I mostly found ground problems will cause some pretty crazy stuff to happen I just wanted a second opinion on it i apreciate the opinions Last edited by mdoyleaz; 07-26-2012 at 02:05 PM.. |

Yes, could be a lifter, although the injectors on these cars are quite loud.
And let me be the first to say this: if you don't have proof the timing belts were changed recently, change them NOW. Above all, have fun!
