924 only runs at idle
I have a 78 924 that has set in the garage for 5 years. I was given this car because the fuel system was shot. I replaced everything on the fuel system, (pump, fuel dist., injectors etc... I could not get the car to run until today when I purchased a new bat tery. The car started up and ran pretty good so I let it run for about 10 minutes at idle and reved it up quite a few times. I shut the car off to work on the back hatch and about 1/2 hour later I tried to start it to put it back in the garage and it would only idle at about 500 rpm and would not increase rpms. At low idle I tested alternator output and it was at 12.1 volts. Is it possible the low output is causing this problem. Plan to charge the battery to full again tomorrow to see if it runs with full charge.

Did you also change the WUR (control pressure regulator) and the fuel accumulator? The CIS system on an 924 2.0 hates vacuum leaks. Check very carefully for hoses that look fine, but reveal cracking when bent.

924 runs only rough idle
I did change both accumulators but they were used. Not sure about the pressure regulator, will have to check my records. Found no vacuum line to the back connection on the dist. diaphragm, followed the diagram and teed it off the line to the intake but still no difference. Will continue to check on the vacuum leaks. When it first starts it idles perfect for about 3 seconds then acts as if it is starving for fuel.
Thanks for the help |
Ok so I moved on to the vacuum leaks. I pressurized the system to 10 lbs and went to work with my soap bubbles. I found a few leaks that I fixed but it was bubbling pretty good out of the top of the throttle body housing. Mainly where the throttle butteryfly valves mount. I attempted to tighten but no luck. Is there a way to repair this, and will it have an effect on operation. New throttle body valves are $800
