Which S2?

Hi all,

What dilemma!

Two 1989 944S2s, important work done (belts, pumps etc), similar price. In Australia, so pricing not comparable to rest of world ( we only got 160 odd 944S2s in total).

1. 370000km, owned by a mechanic who Tarmac rallies another S2 and a dirt rally 8v. His daily driver, shows its age reasonably well, a little work required. 968CS front brakes, M030 suspension included. Red on colour. Design 90 rims plus a set of Cup replicas. ABS

2. 250000km, car prepped and used for club work, LSD, adjustable Konis, Boxter rims (2 sets), half cage, race seats, Azurite blue (yum), standard seats, non ABS, a few more minor niggles, but nothing show stopping.

I drove the first car, felt very nice, just a little worn cosmetically. Friend drove second car as it is interstate.

Which way to jump?!?

Greg

Tough call but I would be swayed by the lower mileage Azurite blue with LSD, never a fan of Design 90 wheels or (heavy) Cup replicas.

Blue vs. red
LSD vs. option brakes
Minor mechanical issues vs minor body issues

Not so worried about wheels, phone dials would be nice instead

Put it like this:

Blue 944's are more desirable than red ones.
LSD is more desirable than upgraded brakes.
Minor mechanical issues are easier to deal with and normally cheaper to repair than bodywork.

Guys,

Thanks for the feedback. Was unaware of the relative rarity of blue cars. An Arrow blue would the best.

I have struck a second issue relating to transferring registration interstate. Height adjustable suspension a bit of a no no. Not insurmountable, but a consideration

Cheers

Koni's are not height adjustable. They are adjustable reguarding the level of dampening. You maybe thinking of coilovers

Definitely #2. The upgrade brakes can easily be added at a future date, while sourcing an LSD down under will be next to impossible. That alone would sway me, but add to that the rarity of the color (so sick of Guards Red!), the lower mileage, and all the prep work completed. No brainer!

Hi there,

The Konis are both adjustable in bump/ rebound and have threaded collars to adjust height. So yes coil overs!

So you are saying your state has a restriction in height adjustable suspension? There's a lot of factory systems nowadays that are height adjustable, most at a touch of a button, BMW, Merc, GM, etc. Range Rover has been doing it for years. So you cannot register any of those new models either. Just curious.

Hi there,

Yes and no. Factory ok, aftermarket needs to get an Engineers certificate ($$$$) .

Unfortunately the authorities have no record of M030 against the 944 and onus of proof is on me. The fitted dampers are not M030 and yes, hey are that bloody minded.

I am investigating factory struts/dampers to overcome, cost is the question.

Finding a set is proving hard!

I am waiting on word back from one of two (2) Porsche wreckers in Oz.

I have had the best result with Douglas valley wreckers. You could also try lart (he sells on ebay).

There's nothing wrong with red . I would go the blue though just for the lsd.

Good luck

I forgot about Douglas wreckers.

To be honest, the blue car is looking to be more trouble than I care for at the moment. The red car, while a bit tired in the paint dept, feels more honest. Additionally, I am happy to pay for a LSD later on...

Buying from interstate and bringing to South Australia Sucks Balls.

If you want anything interesting..............forget it.

If you lived in a semi rural area, like me, you just take it to the local cop shop and the receptionist fills out a form and gives you a ticket to ride :-)

Who owns the red one? is it Nick?
