Removing head: raise the car?
Hi Folks,
It's a 1989 2.7L 944 N/A and I am nearing cylinder head removal, and have got the cam tower and intake manifold off already. The car is not currently jacked up, and I'm short of room for removing the exhaust header bolts at the exhaust end (no access from underneath the side where the car is currently positioned). I have loosened all the nuts at the exhaust manifold to head, and I have got enough access to probably remove the studs using the two nut method. If these studs are out, and the exhaust headers pried off the head, can I "just" lift the head out? Anything to look out for especially? regards Russell

I removed mine from under the car.
And, I am not sure about the 89, but with my 86 the headers do not need to be removed from the head to remove the head. Quote:

With all the studs removed you can pull the cylinder head out without jacking the car up or taking the headers off..

One thing that helps is to jack up the PS side of the car. That way you can place the head back on straight downwards. Doesn't sound like much but it really helps.

yea just lift. u may need to wiggle a bit to get it to seperate. just grab it by cam pulley and rear cam cap and lift.
make sure u've disconnected the coolant outlet at the rear of the head, driver side. |

Thanks folks.
That's a great tip (pun intended) of yours Slam. Sadly the car is very close beside the house and lifting it on one side will push it into the wall. I can't shift it even an inch as there is only just enough room for bicycles and motorbikes to get past. Still I might roll it out to the front if I get desparate..! Cheers Rissole
