How'd you take the timing belt covers out, without pulling the crank pulley?
I'm doing the same thing on my turbo, need the special tool to hold the balance shaft pulleys on while taking the nut off (do you know a way around this?). Ahmet |
Hi Ahmet,
No need for a special tool to remove the balance shaft pulleys. Either use a strap wrench with a fabric/rubber belt around the outside of the pulley to hold it, or, if you're replacing the balance-shaft belt, loop the old one around the pulley to protect the cog teeth, then grip the outside with a huge pair of Channel Locks. I used a large pair of channel locks and a piece of leather so the channel locks would not mar the pulley. It was a two person operation. There are holes in the front of the pulley for a tool that can be made from a piece of steel strap, two bolts, and two nuts. You insert the bolts that are attached to the strap via the nuts into the two holes in the pulley. For a seriously tight pulley, you can tap the bolts into the strap, then put nut on.
