changed my cam chain tensioner pad

Hi all, been a while. I just started working on getting my '88S back on the road. I recently lost a '91S2 to a failed cam chain tensioner pad, so that was my first job. I think it was easier than the timing belt job, which i've done before and is next in line w this one. I am concerned however because there is a pad on the bottom of the chain tensioner also, and although it did not look very worn, it is as old as the one on top was, which I believe is 25 years! I got the top pad at zims, which is the only place i've seen them, and since the J tube and tensioner looked very good I decided to just change that. Anyone know if the bottom pad is available anywhere?

The big job I have is the clutch, but I want to make sure the engine runs before I tackle that, The car has been sitting in my garage for more than a year now. I highly recommend the pad change however, it was an easy feel good job.

I will post my progress, on the whole project. two more questions though, the interior is covered with what looks like a whitish mold, what's the best way to clean that up?
Also, is there anything you can tell me about the clutch job I am facing? Thanks. I can't wait to get back in my 944 and hand the mazda3 over to my wife!

John, the clutch is alot of work but certainly a garage do-able job. The bulk of the time is basically relatively straight forward disassembly. They keys to success are getting the car as high as possible off the ground.. goto HarborFreight and pickup a set of the large 6 or 12-ton stands. Getting the car onto large jackstands is like a 3-4 step process and a PITA, but it makes everything easier. I still think the worse part of the job is getting the transmission in and out, if you have a trans or ATV jack its not too bad though. I would set aside around 5-6 afternoons working at a pretty leisure pace. You will need a helper for a few steps, in particular the transmission removal / install and also sliding the torque tube back and fourth.

Used my dads '94 e320 a few years ago as a winter car. It was a spare car for the family so sat for over a year without use. It had a similar whiteish mold in the interior. I basically Lysol'ed every surface of the interior and wiped it down with paper towels. Went through the entire car twice, then again a few days after. Pretty sure i got most of it out because it never came back. I also ran like half a can through the hvac blower intake. It sucked cleaning it up though.. especially when your an OCD person like i am!

Zims also sells the complete top and bottom set at $118.95. It used to be $150 when I bought it last year. They did not tell you that?

Thank-you all. Jon, it's good to see you're still here.
I charged up the batt. put in some fresh gas and started her up, a little rough at first but running nice now. Not charging batt. probably alt. issue. It's been a while so I forget all the reasons it's off the road. started cleaning the int. not as bad as it seemed, thx again Jon.
I can't believe I didn't see that on zims, maybe it was the price that put me off. I also bought a pair of pads for my '89S2, i may have thought the set was for an S2 also, o well. Onward to the clutch job!
