Time to say goodbye fella's
I bought my little baby about 21 years ago. I remember being so excited about it. It was just so cool looking that I had to have it. I bought it in Seattle from a personal injury lawyer and man he sure was a duche bag. It cost me $21k.
I just love driving the car and we've been all over the country with it. I kept it so long because I've never found another car I like better, but now it is time to say goodbye to her. I seem to be working on it more than I drive it. It's very hard to let go, but I gotta do it. The shudder shifting from 3rd to 2nd gear was probably the last straw. Along with the other problems it's just too much. I sold her today and it felt like putting down the family dog. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() GOODBYE ALL ![]() I bought a beautiful 2004 Mercedes SL500 but life just won't be the same without my 944. ![]() ![]()

Thanks John,
It's very beautiful, but man is it cramped inside. The 944 has so much more room, I miss it already. I don't think I'll be owning this thing for too long.

Yikes, that Benz is gonna teach you a thing or two about reliability. Buy a warranty!

The three valve heads? The early 2000 cars do get a bad rap with bad voltage care...no jump starting and keep the battery fresh. CAN bus type comminication systems are a gold mine for MB with the modules married to the VIN.
There is something about the mono-wiper that makes me queasy..but so does cowl shake with a bit of drizzle on the glass)) |

Good luck with the SL! I've been looking at a 2007 that I may pull the trigger on... The biggest issue with the R130 is the suspension system that requires quite a bit of maintenance and costs huge money when (not if) it fails. The accumulators need to be replaced every few years and the system should be flushed regularly.
There is a coil over suspension system that replaces the hydraulic system for around 4K. I still love them...

Before you do, Farah, have an honest conversation with a euro mechanic about the build quality of that car. After working on a few, I've found them consistently horrifying.

i had an 07 sl550 and it was a great car. it did have the typical MB battery issues, but that was it. incredibly solid, fast, and fun to drive. nose heavy by most standards today, but with the right tires, very grippy.
that being said, we sold it because i didn't want to be the one working on it, and wasn't going to pay mercedes repair costs on a commuter. |

Rasta,
I've been on the MB forums reading all I can about the R130 model and even spoke with a tech at the local MB dealership. Some people have had great experiences while others are still recovering from their nightmares. IMHO, I think they're one of the prettiest cars on the road however; the range of issues is daunting. It appears that the 2012 and later models are more reliable but way out of my price range. Sigh... ![]()

I'd like to add a Chrysler Crossfire to my fleet but fit is a problem--I'm 6'4".

My 2c; Consider looking for a nice kept '88 924S. They are out there. Any Benz built after '99 will fall apart faster than you can keep track of.
