Engine Number

In my search of what engine I actually have in my car.. I wrote down the serial on the back of the engine, still not much clue on the number from the head. It is: 43L07937

Engine Numbers My engine doesn't seem to exist, or I'm reading this wrong. Or maybe I transcribed my number wrong.

Edit: My bell housing has this number on it: 944.116.401.2R A quick google search tells me that is the number for the 951 housing, do both models share the same part or what is going on?

You need the number off the block. Don`t worry about part numbers...

The engine number is located there along with the engine deignator code, M44.xx The numbers for the 86 engine range from M44.05 to M44.08, unless it's a turbo block, that would be M44.50 or M44.51..M44.52 for the turbo S block (88) and the 89- turbo (S designation was dropped in 1989, since it was the only turbo engine available, there was no 217hp turbo in 1989).

As for your bellhousing, they are interchangeable, but the turbo bellhousing part number starts with 951.xxx.xxx.xx
