Very firm 968 auto shifting
Just had the rubber damper in my 968 (automatic) replaced. When I picked up the car the shifting has become significantly firmer.
By that I mean when I shift from park to reverse (or any other shift) the amount of effort required to manually move the shift lever has increased significantly over the effort required prior to the damper repair. Anyone have a clue or two as to why the shifter would be so difficult? Is there perhaps a nut or a bolt that could be over tightened. |

I had a similar problem on a Ford Explorer. The shift indicator mechanism was binding up. Could or could not be the source of your difficulty. GLWR.

Perhaps take it back to the shop and ask them about it? Not impossible that they installed something improperly right?

I recently replaced the damper on my 968 by myself. It is pretty involved, and does require removing the cable from trans to shifter, but the shift lever does not need to be removed.
I would say that either the cable is pinched, or the attachment to the trans is set up wrong.

Mechanic,
Had not secured all items in the torque tube tunnel. Shifter cable was binding. |
