I have a 1988 924s, that year came with self -adjusting tensioner. The question is why the belt is running to the inside of the camshaft gear, (toward the engine). The belt is also rubbing on the inside cover. Black belt dust was found when the cover was removed.
Does any one have any suggestions why this is happening? |

Look at the tensioner roller and be sure that the shoulder of the roller is towards the engine. Many times the rollers get replaced and reinstalled backwards. This allows the belt to track towards the engine and against the back cover. If I can find a photo I will post to show the correct roller placement.

Yeah, the tensioner roller and the crank drive sprocket both have shoulders, which should oppose each other to keep the belt on track.

Thanks guys I appreciate. I would have never been able to find that on my own. According to the workshop manual, the flange crank gear faces out, andthe flange on the adjuster faces in. That has to be the problem.
