a couple of questions?

I have a couple of odds and ends questions about my 944.

1. I smell gas inside the car, especially after filling it up. Is there any way to get rid of that?

2. My RPMs seem a bit high, idling @ 1800. Is there a way to adjust this?

1. I believe could be multiple things, will wait for forum gods to answer.

2. Yes, there is! It's super easy to change as well. That's really high by the way, mine idles at ~900 RPM.

Check that your throttle cable is adjusted correctly and not holding the throttle open. Check that your throttle position sensor is working and adjusted correctly. Look for vacuum leaks, for any deteriorated hoses under the intake manifold, especially for the idle stabilizer.

The fuel smell is likely the filler neck hose as mentioned. I've never looked into it even though mine does the same thing, but I can't imagine it would be too hard to find some equivalent hose to replace it with. I believe there's also a weird plastic expansion tank hidden up in there somewhere and those hoses could also be a problem.

I have that gas smell, as mentioned I don't fill the tank when fueling up, no problem. I plan
to look into the problem sometime this winter.

The gas smell is the large hose/coupling that connects the filler next to the gas tank. Its just a plastic lined rubber hose that goes bad. Pretty much every 944 has this problem and it's exacerbated by filling it all the way up. I filled my 84 all the way up and then proceeded to park on a heavily crowned road. When I came back there was fuel dripping out of my car. I almost s*** myself thinking the fuel tank was cracked.

I think that the part is not available but it might be somewhere.

Just don't fill up more than 3/4 and you won't have a problem.

On the early cars, it could also be the venting hoses on top of the tank rotting.
The early cars and the 924S suffered from cracks:

Gas fumes? Tank leaks? Read this.
