944 auto trans (adjustment?)

Sorry but I have another question about 944 automatic transmission.
The reason why I want to change my transmission is I always need to warm up the car for 10 minutes when I start from cold, otherwise the gears will not shift AT ALL.
Once it is warm it shifts and drives perfectly.
It has been like that for 5 years!
This is very annoying and that's why I want to change the transmission.
My question: Is there any adjustment on the automatic transmission to prevent this problem ? Anything that can be done other than changing the whole transmission?
I thought first something was going really bad with my transmission but now I don't think so because I have not seen any deterioration of the symptoms for 5 years.

When was the last time you changed your transmission fluid and cleaned the filter screen?

Fluid level has a lot to do with how it shifts also. Dirty fluid and filter would be my first things to correct though.
