Hey lads,
Been looking into RKE for my 944 S, and well its turned into a whole other thing now. All aftermarket RKE units come with really crap looking key fobs plus I hate things hanging from my ignition barrel other than the key, so I've been doing some research and speaking with a local manufacture about there product and also talking to tech blokes at my local electronics store. So what have I learned. Australian purchased Porsches RKE/Alarm use 433.92MHz. Aftermarket RKE units run 433.92MHz unless the company has bought a specific banding (not that cheap to own and keep running for the company though). Now if you are thinking like I am what's stopping me from programing a Porsche key fob to work on my aftermarket RKE system........ Firstly the aftermarket RKE unit needs to have a learn function, the one I have ordered does. Second the key and the unit need to be 433.92MHz, the unit is and I have not yet got a key fob as of yet. So does it work.... at this stage no idea the unit is being made and delivered next week and I can't find a replacement Porsche key fob that is available in Australia all the US ones are 315MHz. The manufacture technician has told me what I want to do is "possible", but would not elaborate any further on the nitty gritty bits. The techs at my local electronics store say its also possible as the 433.92MHz rolling code is really old tech but simple and safe cause you can't capture a sent signal to use it again later as you have like a one in a billion chance of being able to use it again, but you can make a module learn a new remote otherwise if you damaged or lost your fobs you would need to replace the whole system. So guys what's your thoughts do you think its possible? I will keep you posted cause as soon as I get my custom RKE I'm going to test my theory with my other car fob and my old Audi key fob I still have. Cheers lads. |

Looks like no interest..... I'll do a write up soon as I have the system in then all I'm waiting on is the use of a friends boxter spare key fob when he come down from brissy to give this a crack.

somebody made one a couple of years ago. didn't sell. too expensive compared to fobs units i think. wrong crowd maybe. many of the owners here think $100 is a lot of money.

Cheers flash968,
Didn't know someone made one that's kinda cool... pitty it didn't take off. I'm just more keen on keeping the look of originality to my ride plus I hate heaps of keys or big things hanging from my ignition barrel when I drive. |
