It isn't the DME relay.

88 944 NA 8v. I think the AFM or TPS is going. Every 10 or so minutes while the engine is running the RPMs will fall off, sometimes until the engine dies. If I get on the gas quick enough or if it's already moving and in gear it might dip a few hundred and recover in a couple seconds. I also have to give it gas while starting and warming up, if that might be related.

Does anything obvious jump out from that description? I'm going to test AFM and TPS pretty soon but if there's something else to look at then by all means.

I think we've all wanted to do the latter at one point

I'm fond of the wrench through the windshield when I'm swearing like a sailor, in my mind anyways. Otherwise I'd break down in tears lol.

Well it's now officially my second car so the stress level involved with troubleshooting the fuel system is way down from here on out. I'm glad that there are people who can happily use a 944 for primary transportation but after 8 years of ownership I've finally come to the realization that it ain't for me.

I had a vaguely similar situation when I first picked up the car...replaced the distributor and ignition coil, and it completely fixed it. Might be worth a shot...

There was a recent similiar thread. The car would hesitate at 1700rpm.

Suggestion was to clean the tracks on the AFM.
Easy to do or get another to test.
Just a reminder, if you plan to get a rebuilt, some rebuilders will not take an AFM that has had the cover opened.

First check for any vacuum leak under the intake boot or brittle plastic hose connectors. Check the AFM swing door for free movement and crud.

Old post with a few suggestions:

Afm
