try searching through the old posts, there are many arguments about the top speeds.

thanks

On a stock, unmodified NA, top speed runs anywhere from about 125 - 135MPH. "book" top speed is 130 MPH

Don't count on the speedo. They read high.

I have driven my cup 951 to 170 mph. It has been timed at 195 mph

Is that kilometers per hour or miles per hour. 195 mph sounds fast unless you're putting out about 450 hp.

GeorgeK 06-24-2002 09:34 AM

Hi Lawrence,
it is miles, or if you prefer, it has been timed above 300 Km/h.
It has 310 Hp as is, but can go up to >400 with fuel additives and the (adjustable) boost turned up.

George:

Never have tried mine for top speed. I don't have the tires to do it. Nice looking car you've got there.....

I have a 944S and I had it up to 150mph but that was not the max, merely the point when I started to **** my pants:) I know my car maxs out at 110-115mph in 4th gear.

ok........

here is more from the series, notice 200 RPM was approx 10mph, do the math(it will degrade some). There was also ALOT of extra weight in the car.

Best I've squeezed out of mine is 120 M.P.H.
I hope a F.R. Wilk chip will gimme the xtra zip I'm looking for, I really don't want to trade her for a turbo. course then again, I'm gonna beef up the suspension, just the thing for my L.A. surface street blues.

Bob's944 06-26-2002 05:56 AM

My NA does a tick under 120 mph in 4th gear at redline (I swear I was just trying to get out of the way for a BMW M3 who couldn't seem to pass me up till those speeds) . I've had it near 130 mph with more to go, but it starts hitting the "air wall" around 130 mph, aerodynamics and stock 150 hp is the limiter. It would do more downhill and with the wind... not alot of hills around here.

Top speed...my '84 944 is real smooth at 110mph/175kph but does have a slight front end shake around 70 mph. Because of the little shakies around 70 I'm kind of shy about top speed. I did notice the speedo off a little so I paced the 944 with a Blazer. At 98 mph Blazer speed my 944 was reading 105 mph (170kph). Best speed I've pushed out of my 944 is 130mph/210 kph (corrected speed), still got a little pedal left so when I get the frontend smoothed out I'll push it hard and post the results. Any ideas or comments about the frontend are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Bob's944 07-01-2002 08:17 PM

Mine had a shake at 70 mph when i bought it.... tires were old... I had new tires put on, 2 sway bar bushings... the shake dissappeared and it's tracked beautiful ever since. My bet is there's something wrong with one of your front tires. Have your tires checked for roundness and balance. Best to use a place that can balance the wheel while it's on the car, call around, most can't do that.
