Fuel line flush

Gents. Just bought a 1983, 944. It had been sitting, in a garage for 3 years with no attention. Bought the car without starting, but was guaranteed it was running fine when it was parked. No records came with the car.
I drained the fuel tank and about a gallon emerged, didn't smell of varnish but didn't smell of good stuff either. I would like to flush the fuel lines to get the nasty old stuff out. Can anybody guide me along the path to success? I am not sure where to or which line to separate at the engine. Do I blow the line with compressed air, or put new fuel in the tank and chase the old gas out? Do I extinguish my cigar before starting?

On another subject, I have seen that a broken timing belt can cause chaos in the engine if it breaks. The car has a shade north of 40,000 miles and seems like it was well taken care of. Is it a job for a weekend mechanic with limited abilities like myself? I've already spent my wad (I also have a 01, 996) and would like to get the car running but can maintain my desires if needed. Thank you in advance for your help.

They all run before they are parked lol. That low of mileage with that age means bad, old, hard, cracked rubber etc. should probably replace your fuel lines not clean them.

Replaced the old hose coming out the bottom of the tank. It was goo and leaking. I'll replace the rest of the hose before adding any fuel.

With no records, and did you get a CarFax to verify the 40,000 miles? The early odometers only have 5 digits. An '83 could have 140,000 OR?

Besides the fuel, oil, brake and coolant fluids, you have to protect the DME computer. The early 944s had many electrical and wiring issues. Corrosion on the grounds, relays, fuses and all top of engine connections should be cleaned. If the battery cables have green acid corrosion, the cables should be upgraded.

Yes. The carfax checks out the mileage. I will look for corrosion.
