Interest in NEW 3.0 cranks?
Hi,
Wondering if there would be any interest amongst the 951 community (or S2/968 of course ) in having new production 88mm stroke cranks made... I have been going back and forth with a US crank/rod manufacturer (Molnar) and they are telling me that they can make a billet 4340 crankshaft for the 944...they need to make at least 5 cranks at a time and the cost would be around $1500/ea. It turns out they already make an H-beam connecting rod for the 944 engine at a little over $600/set new. Considering that's about the going rate of a good factory 3.0 crank that sounds pretty good to me...and the new crank could be made lighter and with better oiling than the factory parts. It would also be possible to have these pre-made in 94/95mm stroke with Mitsubishi rod journal size for the hybrid strokers. And it wouldn't be hard to make the crank in about any stroke you want as long as it fits in the block... What do you think? |

Good price, but they will sit for years! or unless you build some gnarly motors to run them in.
