Accelerator cable

I noticed today that my accelerator cable is a bit freyed.. Pelican only sells new cables for manual cars. My car is a 1987 944 na automatic. Can they be repaired without replacing the the whole cable not because I can,t afford a new one it,s just that my mechanic ability ends with putting gas in the car.

Pelican has it but because of the price, post a WTB in the Pelican Parts forum.

But if you have an extra $502, Pelican can get it-

I replaced my inner cable with a heavy duty one from the bike shop and put on a small cable stop at the throttle cam. About €3 in material and 20 minutes. If you are able to replace the original, you are able to make your own. It's just a bowden cable with an adjuster, I honestly don't see why anyone would pay the money for a new original one.

The only tricky part is removing the old one from the acc pedal. after that, take it out of the car, clean the outer cable, grease the new inner one and feed it through the pedal anchoring and into the outer cable, leaving on the moulded cable stop to secure it in the anchoring.

put it back in the car, adjuster screwed in half way so you'll have some room to play both ways. re-attach the clip that secures the cable to the throttle body. put a suitable, tiny screw-on cable stop in the throttle cam and feed through the cable until there is no slack. screw on, cut remainder off, enjoy your new cable. Do consider that 2-3mm slack is OK, too tight is not. especially since yours is an auto box.

If you don't feel confident or capable to do this, please find someone who does. You don't want your cable to come undone in traffic.

good luck!
