Hey guys, I am currently in the middle of replacing the cam belt + balance belt + rollers + drive belts + water pump + t-stat + oil cooler seals + all hoses.
Need advice: Do I need the following: - Flywheel lock - Balance shaft lock bar (it looks indispensable...) - Oil cooler housing alignment pin - Cam belt tension gauge? I have checked around for prices to rent/buy these items... Anyone got any ideas/sources??? I have spoken with Ian @ Ian's/944online.com, he told me that he's getting some aftermarket tension gauges (around $75.00). Think it would work??? If so for this price it would be a bargain. Please help me out or give me some ideas. I have also considered the Rennlist Tool Club, not sure it's still around or if I could get it in a timely manner.

Flywheel lock - you can probably put it in high gear with parking breaks on & get buy without it.
Balance Shaft lock bar - you might have them turn while adjusting the idler to tension the belt, but you can back off & jump it a tooth on the pulleys to allow & retighten. Oil Cooler Housing Allignment pin - Either get one or have a machine shop make you one. Cam Belt Tension Gage - Unless the $75 one comes with specs for tensioning & you know you can fit it in there & use it, I would get the Porsche tool & calibration bar. drew1 |
