hand brake warning switch

'87 944 na

I installed this part the other day:

968-613-601-00-M100 contact switch, interior light - hand-brake warning light, 924/944/968, 928 (through 1986, hand brake)

the part at the bottom - where the contact is made - is very much pressed into the carpet. There is a considerable difference between the one that I removed and the new part at this location.

hope that makes sense. I looked at the parts catalog and diagrams (in "more info"), and basically it looks like it fits my car MY and is for the light switch also. Any idea why it doesn't work as the description implies, or why it is not precisely formed as the original part?

I asked Pelican staff about it, and they suggest that this is a gray area in the car world - I suppose might be better to just patch the old rusty part.

I can get pics of the old one if really necessary.
