In the back hatch are just behind the rear seats and under the carpet are these 2 threaded things. What were they designed for and do they have a purpose?

I think they are the anchor-nuts for the fuel tank straps.

Gas tank anchor nuts makes sense. I didnt even notice them until I was stabbed in the knee by one.
